Jewish Museum, Finchley

This Museum is now closed, and its collections will be amalgamated with those of the Jewish Museum in Camden Town, when it re-opens in the Summer 2009. To find out more about the Museum, its collections and its current events programme visit www.jewishmuseum.org.uk

Formerly the London Museum of Jewish Life, now the home of the social history collections of the Jewish Museum (also at Camden Town). Visitors can explore the history of Jewish immigration and settlement in London, and step back in time to view reconstructions of tailoring and cabinet-making workshops from the Jewish East End. There are hands-on activities for children and a children's treasure trail is available. Holocaust education is a major feature of the Museum's work, with exhibitions and educational programming relating to the Holocaust and the experiences of refugees from Nazism.

The Museum Of London's new microsite allows you to search for the story of the many cultures of London in their collections.

This image shows Sir Mancherjee Bhownaggree, MP for Bethnal Green 1895 - 1906. A supporter of British rule in India, he was nicknamed 'bow-the-knee' by opponents. However he also lobbied parliament on the rights of Indian subjects.
