BFI Southbank

The BFI Southbank includes three cinemas showcasing the best historical and contemporary film from around the world, a Studio for special screenings to small audiences, a Mediatheque, an art gallery, a project space, the Filmstore and two restaurants.

BFI Mediatheque

Designed by award winning architect David Adjaye, the Mediatheque enables individuals or small groups to browse a huge selection of titles from the BFI's National Archive for free.

From fragile film treasures to contemporary television, new digital technology has made it possible for everyone to enjoy this rarely seen footage.

BFI Gallery

This gallery space showcases leading contemporary artists' work in film, video and new media.

Studio

A drop-in digital cinema showcasing archive and contemporary film, video and television material as well as hosting talks, presentations and education events will be situated in the new foyer space, off Theatre Avenue.

Project space

A casual research, study and participation area equipped with a number of unique resources, largely drawn from the BFI's collections sits alongside the Gallery, Mediatheque and Studio

Filmstore

This offers an extensive range of film and television books and DVDs.

Open

Mediatheque BFI Southbank's Mediatheque is the place to explore the BFI National Archive. Turn up on the day or book a viewing session in advance. Tue 13:00-20:00, Wed - Sun 11:00-20:00 Book in advance: 020 7815 3535 Not open Mon (except Bank Holidays). Education and community groups Tue mornings. For group bookings call 020 7815 1329. BFI Gallery Open during exhibitions Tuesday to Sunday from 12noon to 8pm. The three cinemas at BFI Southbank are open daily.

Admission Charges

Entrance to the Mediatheque and Gallery is free.

The Museum Of London's new microsite allows you to search for the story of the many cultures of London in their collections.

This image shows Sir Mancherjee Bhownaggree, MP for Bethnal Green 1895 - 1906. A supporter of British rule in India, he was nicknamed 'bow-the-knee' by opponents. However he also lobbied parliament on the rights of Indian subjects.
