Merton Heritage Centre, The Canons, Madeira Road, Mitcham, CR4 4HD, Surrey, England

Based in picturesque surroundings, Merton Heritage Centre tells the story of Merton and its people through a changing programme of exhibitions and events. Staff are committed to making local history accessible for poeple of all ages and exhibitions frequently feature hands-on displays.

The Centre has an education service, providing resource boxes, project advice and occasional classroom support for local schools, colleges and adult learners.

Our events timetable includes lectures, craft fairs, workshops, children's activities and a series of popular coach tours. We also have a salespoint and offer a free newsletter 4 times per year.

The Museum Of London's new microsite allows you to search for the story of the many cultures of London in their collections.

This image shows Sir Mancherjee Bhownaggree, MP for Bethnal Green 1895 - 1906. A supporter of British rule in India, he was nicknamed 'bow-the-knee' by opponents. However he also lobbied parliament on the rights of Indian subjects.
