Near & Middle East: Kurdish

Islington Museum holds a small number of Kurdish objects, including photographs and some headwear. The headwear includes a man's headdress from the Kurdish area of Turkey dated around 1991. There's also a black and white turban cloth, (shown above). It was brought back to the UK by a cameraman covering the crisis of 1991 in Iraq when many Kurds fled to the mountains following the gassing of Kurds by Saddam Hussein. The photographs held by the museum cover the same events and period.
