The Centre collects weavings from the Guatemalan highlands which includes both everyday and ceremonial dress. The collection represents over 100 communities and spans a period of 100 years.
Collecting continues to this day to ensure that recent trends and fashions within the communities are adequately covered. The textile collection is in the process of being documented and the history of each item is being written, using not only our own reference material but also archives and collections worldwide. Fieldwork in the various communities is an ongoing process. A series of publications on various aspects of Guatemalan Maya life and dress is in preparation.
