Evelyn Oldfield Unit (inc. Refugee Communities History Project)

The Evelyn Oldfield Unit works with refugees in London, providing professional support and help. They also run a history project, and have to date collected over 150 oral histories of the experience of refugees in London. You can read many of these in touring exhibitions provided by the Unit: they also publish many of the experiences on their new website.

The Museum Of London's new microsite allows you to search for the story of the many cultures of London in their collections.

This image shows Sir Mancherjee Bhownaggree, MP for Bethnal Green 1895 - 1906. A supporter of British rule in India, he was nicknamed 'bow-the-knee' by opponents. However he also lobbied parliament on the rights of Indian subjects.
