North Kensington Community Archive contains a wide range of material recording the past and present in North Kensington, from the early 1800s to the present day. The collections include photographs, oral history recordings, documents and printed items.
Much of the material reflects the multiculturalism of the area, in particular the oral history archives, and the Notting Hill Carnival Collection.
The Archive is open between 10am and 5pm Wednesday - Friday by prior appointment only. Anyone interested in visiting the Archive should telephone 020 7792 1177 for an appointment.

Carnival Collections: 1970 - ongoing. The material is mainly from the 1980’s onward but includes information relating to the carnival origins, in Organisation and Administration of Carnival; Writing and News Coverage includes clippings, articles and extracts from books, some deal with specific years or events others are more general; there is Promotional Material, maps, posters, articles, leaflets and postcards about forthcoming carnivals, items produced by corporate sponsors and from performers; Preparation and Celebration reflects the all year round activities, services and skills such as costume making and steel pan, plus items for productions and exhibitions, there is also a collection of Photographs, Videos and Music recordings.Please Note: In order to assist researchers all Carnival material is presented in thematic groups. These groupings do not reflect their provenance or their physical arrangement.

Carnival Oral Histories: 80 Interviews taken between 2000 and 2003 mainly with people from the Caribbean community living in North Kensington. Transcripts and photographs accompany most of the interviews. There are also a number of Caribbean contributions in the Methodist Oral Histories.
Notting Dale Urban Studies Centre, Local Environment Resource Files: These files contain news clippings, leaflets, reports and images. The file on Race holds items of relevance to the local Caribbean community. The Photographic Collection contains images of Carnival.

Cross-cultural
Oral History Collection: Comprises of interviews concerning Carnival as well as the Spanish and Irish communities of North Kensington. There is also a series of interviews with Methodists which contains a number of Caribbean contributions. Additionally the Reminiscences at Home; a series of personal recollection interviews with elderly housebound people also has Caribbean and Irish interviews.
Notting Dale Urban Studies Centre Collection: Comprises of Local Environment Resource Files containing news clippings, leaflets, reports and images. Arranged by topic the Race and Religion files contain material of relevance to African, Caribbean, Irish, Jewish, Moroccan, Filipino, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish, Anglican, Hindu, Islamic, Roman Catholic, Sikh, Serb and Greek Orthodox groups as well as Travelling communities. The news file holds a similar range. There is also a Photographic Collection containing images of local people and events.
